Gentleman,

Is there any other farmall engines that would fit into the Farmall H to increase HP.

Bob

I'm currently in the process of replacing the C152 engine in my '47 I-4 road roller conversion with a C169 out of a 300 Utility. I didn't do it for a power increase, but thats just what I had available to replace a severly stuck engine.

I have hit one obstacle that I'm in the process of working through right now. The I-4 chassis must use the original thin flanged front timing cover from the C152 which has the front pedestal motor mount built on to it. The C169 engine has the bigger bulky front timing cover for mounting the front bolster of the unitzed 300U chassis. The 152's front cover uses all 3/8 NC bolts and no dowel pins. The C169 uses the same bolt pattern, but all the bolts penetrating the block (7 total) are 1/2 NC and it also has 2 dowel pins that aren't drilled in the older timing cover.

Its going to be doable, but its being a bit inconvenient.

Rusty Farmall has the right idea. Find you a engine out of a 350. they have 175 cubic inches(stock) compared to the 152 of the standard H. They also have better air flow and different valves that increase HP by leaps and bounds.

I've seen pictures of a V8 being put in... but that looks pretty stupid if you ask me. I agree that doing an overhaul with bigger pistons and such is a much more pleasing way to get more HP.

You could overhaul it with a kit of 30 over. I did my H with 10 over and pull 33.5 hp with a new standard cam

Farmall H, super H, 300, and 350 will all interchange readily, and with the proper parts and tuning, the basic H engine can make some pretty impressive power.
