And there is a whole ether starting system, with a solenoid, 12 oz can, nozzle and a button to make it squirt.

Was this before they realized ether is not a good thing?

All you need is a little squirt, one push of the button.

The procedure is to get the engine cranking over first and then add the ether for stating assist. If you do not have good cranking speed, do not use the ether assist until you get that problem cured. When things are working right you will not hear any knocking from using ether.

To check the ether assist for correct operation, with the engine idling, push the button. Engine speed should increase about 200 RPMs.

I'm hoping there isn't real damage. And well, I guess I'll be findin' out soon - if I can find a rig or someone to haul it to my place.

Runs good once it starts. KB-826, you've already told me about the engine shutoff cable, if that doesn't work, that will be my first job.

Put a new can on 'er and it made a totally different tractor out of it. Those Germans with the low compression pistons just plain start hard in cool weather. No getting around it.
