Got a problem and not sure what i'm missing.Left final drive on 48 super a , new bearings and seals last year. Now axle seal is leaking due to excess play in the axle, bull gear. It appears that it needs a shim to remove the end play. i have the bushing (49903D) and washer (49313DA) which the parts list shows. But i have almost 1/8 wiggle room when the shaft is installed.

Bearings appear to be good when out and trying to check for play in the race and bearings. Also no play in the bearing and housing.

I don't remember if the right side had any play but since it isn't leaking i assume it didn't.

What am i missing?

I think i figured it out. It appears my bull gear is worn in the splines. I have one out of a B that is tighter fitting on the splines. will get new seals and see if that fixes it.

Come fix mine when your done with yours. I put a new seal in when i was working on it last summer. Now yesterday it starts leaking. Mine is the right one tho.

I took the long bushing and bull gear from the B and exchanged it and that seems to tighten everthing up for me. I think the key is too get any movement out of the bull gear and axle shaft .

Do you have any play if you stand at the side and push the tire wheel towards the fender? I had some wiggle in mine. See if you do. I bet that is what knocked your seals out also.

No banjo, I dont have any play in mine at all. Its a pretty tight tractor to have been worked so hard and for so long.

That leak will just have to wait tho cause I aint tearing into it again now. Im still messing with an oil pan leak and two gaskets on the final drives that I replaced and they are leaking. Im pretty sure the oil gasket leak is that the bolts keep working loose. Tried the permatex but there must have been oil in the holes cause it didnt work. Ill have to get some q-tips and see if I can clean it out better.

Another day, another leak. Same old thing. LOL

Appears i spoke too soon anyway. I put it all together to see if i still had play and i do. Looks like it is coming from bearings. Not sure if they are supposed to be slip fit or should be a slight press fit. Mine are deffinately slip fit on the axle.
