I was wondering if someone could tell me the year of my farmall w4. The serial number is 8276-DE. , believe it's in the 40's. Also could you tell me where it was made and what number she came off the production line.

thanks alot bernard

Are you sure that this is a serial number? The suffix code is wrong for a serial number of this era- looks more like a parts number. The serial number would be stamped on a metal plate on the left side of the clutch housing.

Your W-4 is a 1944 model.

It is also a International and not a Farmall.

Skip,

You are correct, an oversite on my part. In this time period, the letter series A thru M tractors were Farmall, the W series tractors and O series tractors were McCormick-Deering, and the I series tractors were International. The T and the TD series TracTracTor crawler tractors were also International.

Actually, the A through M were McCormick-Deering Farmalls, the Ws were McCormick-Deering Standard, the O's were McCormick-Deering Orchards or Graoves, and the Is were Internationals. Unless, of course, you happen to be outside of North America, there things got really confusing! IH naming practices really make my head hurt.
