I just bought a '47 H and have an embarassingly stupid question to ask..... .where do you add motor oil?
I have an operators manual on the way but can't wait that long.

on the right side - the distributor or mag drive assembly has on top a threaded casting with "thumb-holds" that looks sort of like a big "wing-nut." You may not be able to twist it by hand, if not, then gently tap it with a hammer or wrench on one of the "wings" - making sure to tap in the counterclockwise direction. The capacity is 6 quarts. Oil is relatively cheap. Why not change the oil altogether. You check the level by opening the turn-cocks on the side of the oil pan. If oil doesn't run out the top one, you are not full, -- if it doesn't run out the bottom one, you are "more than one quart low." RKS
