i have 15.5-38 tires on my 544 gas. they are really weather checked. i called an add for a pair of 16.9-38 tires and the guy said they would be a lot taller than the 15.5's. i don't plan to use the tractor for any really heavy work(3 bottom plow, light disk and haying equipment). would i loose a lot of power by going to the taller tires?

Weather checked tires can last a long time. Just put new tubes in them. One of my F-20s has weather checked tires that were new in 1938! I put new tubes in them and they work just fine.

I agree with the others 16.9s are to big for your tractor, and will take more power to turn. You may be straining it with that three bottom plow. In my opinion the 15.5s are to big on a 544. I have a 450 with 15.5s on it and a 400 and 666 with 16.9s and they are 4 or 5 inches taller than the 15.5s. I would run what you have as long as they will hold air.

Myself since i have been there and done that you will be far better off going to a 14.9x 38 as it is s shade taller then a 15.5 and the same with as a 15.5 . If ya put the 16.9's on you will need a seat belt to hold ya in the seat so ya don't slide foward all the time . I put 16.9x38's on my S/MTA so i could play with the boys and i have HATED THEM since the first day .

You say weather checked but are they flat???? I have tractors with bad looking weather checked tires on them and they have been on some 10 plus years and as long as they are holding air and the tubes don't stick out the side by golly they will stay on the tractor and I will run them. So I guess I'm saying if its not broke why fix it

That's a heck of a big tire for a 544. Think I'd stay with the 15.5s.

Just my opinion,

Allan
