Brett,

Great tractor to have. For a 3-pt hitch, check out Saginaw Valley Tractor. I bought one for my 400 (which had 50 HP from the factory) and it works great. Dual cylinder, well built, and a great RED color. Not cheap, but cheaper than the others available out there, and great quality.

The M is a very good tractor. Our's has ben in the family since it was new. It still works during harvest running an 8 inch auger and moving the small equipment around the rest of the year.

My neighbor Ernie still uses an M and a Super M for the feed grinder, pulling the fertilizer wagon around and pulling grain hoppers in the fall. Up until last spring the Super was still being used with a JD 4 row planter.

That is a lot of nice M for that price, esp. if the engine is fairly fresh. You can goose an M up to 75 HP+ or so with some of the soop up kits around.

Brett, here in SC a good M would go for more than that, that is when people will sell them.Sometimes even the ones that dont look so good go for around 800.Id say 1500 is a good price.

Brett,

The "50-some horsepower" is very possible since the 400 and 450 got up into this range with basically the same engine. Modifications to a plain M to get that much horsepower are not that big a deal - just install the later piston and sleeve set, turn up the governor, and readjust the carburetor.

Most people in central Iowa where I grew up pulled 4-14 plows with an M.

Steve
