Farmall A Question

Hello guys, Today I went to my neighbor's house and he has a nice Farmall A that looks to me like it was restored years ago. He has a cable winch type blade on the front. He converted it to 12 volts. I talked to him a lot about the tractor and he is not sure what year it is. I am not very smart with the Farmall A tractors. Where is the serial number on a Farmall A? He said he thinks it is a 1940 or 1941 but he is not sure. Where is the serial number located? I looked all over the tractor and could not find the serial number, but there are a few casting codes. Can someone tell me where the tag or serial number is located? Thanks. Andy.

The serial number plate is located under the seat on the seat left hadnd seat brace. Casting codes for 1941 are ended in K. 1940 J 1942L. Sometimes the codes are not all the same year as on my 51 M. Some are from 1950 ND SOME ARE FROM 1951.

Thanks for the reply. I looked by the seat, no number looked everywhere, no number. But he found his old catalog that said it was a 1940 and the serial number was A-29608. I got to hear the tractor run, it runs great. He restored it years ago and it can run so slow too that you can easily count the fan blades! It is a very nice tractor and thanks for your help. Andy.

If it has the orginal engine, the engine serial and chassis serials are the same. Prefix is FAA. Engine serial is stamped on a machined area under the #1 spark plug.
