I have posted before on the JD Forum and have had good luck over there so maybe you folks can help me out on this side. We are in the process of having a SMTA restored. The guy doing the restoration work is looking for a new old stock or reproduction exhaust manifold and screw in exhaut pipe for this tractor. I looked in the parts links on this site and didn't have a lot of luck. Being fairly new to farmalls I'm not sure where to look next. I'm hoping you folks can help. Any direction you can give me is appreciated. Thank You
Bob F.

OEM's suck! They are the Jap replacement with the sharp bent pipes (for lack of a better description) They are not "OEM". Most of their stuff is VERY original, but not the manifold for an M (dont know about other tractors) Just check out the pics in the catalog versus the parts book/tractor. JUNK!

Thanks a lot for the information folks. I'll check the sources you have posted. We figured that OEM would be expensive, but the restoration guy said that on the aftermarket manifolds he has used in the past, the threaded pipe tends to work lose or leak. I appreciate the help.

Try eBay, North Otto Tractore parts has them as for a "Super M" but they also fit the SMTA for $119.00, that's a real good price for a new one. Andy.

Call Mike at Steel Wheel Ranch -- 785-548-7437. He can send you one or have one drop shipped. They may still be available from Case-IH, don't know, but OEM will be expensive.

If you order one from your dealer are you going to get an OEM part or will you get the Chinese version?

Not all dealers ar "equal". My local CNH dealer can't look up anything older then a 56 series. If its older then that they will literally say they have no idea how to get that part. If you believe them they can't even get International red paint, all they have is Case IH red.

(I will use this response as a catch-all statement). If it is a Case-IH part, it is generally better than the aftermarket one. The price reflects that. Many Case-IH parts are outsourced to Mexico. But, not all Chinese/Taiwan/India parts are bad. Also my reference to OEM was not the company, but "Original Equipment Manufacturer", which Case-IH is, or, they have parts built to their specifications. OEM Corporation (aftermarket) does have its problems. As to Case-IH dealers, most are directly connected by computer to the Case-IH distribution network (or whatever it is called). I seldom go to the dealer and have them look up a part. I give them part numbers. They know within seconds whether they have it, whether or not it is still in production, and where it is. If it is not at one of the distribution centers, they can do a dealer search and see if any other dealer has the discontinued item. I did that for an air cleaner hose for my 460. Dealer told me that a dealer in Canada had the "only one in North America". I think Case-IH's parts network is the best anywhere. Can't say the same for their prices though.

You are exactly right about the dealors. We have one that don't know how or don't want to try to help with the older tractors. We have another about the same distance away that still uses the books and micro-fiche, and he can get most anything you need for Farmalls. Call Brad Marshall at 1-888-824-0544. He can and will get parts others say are not available. I have looked for parts for my 350 diesel at various dealors and most say they can't get anything for it. Brad can get anything except new valves.

I use Henry Brothers Impliment out of Seneca KS. They've been an IH dealer forever and even support the IH Cub Cadets. The dealership hasn't traded hands since the mid 60s so they still have all thier old info and decades worth of contacts and supply sources. Tell them what I need or describe the problem and the parts are dropped shipped to my house in a day or two.
