"Good morning Americans" as Paul Harvey says. And it is Memorial Day, first observed officially on May 30, 1868. My Col. sister is being relieved of her post at Scott AFB today - seems fitting, and will be sworn in at Ellsworth AFB on Monday. Two uncles served in "double ya double ya two, the big war" as Archie Bunker stated, that"s WWII. My late dad received a deferral as the only son of a pin-stripped-bib overall-wearing farmer. It is veterans who give us the freedom to cuss our government. for creating the Monday National Holiday Act in 1971, thus closing banks, no mail delivery, taxes, record high fuel prices and the right to (guess I can"t use the b word) complain profusely about it and other things on this great board. Link Thanks veterans!

This is my hero veteran. Corp. William J Shuler of dog company. He landed on Omaha 6 days after d-day. Fought at the bulge and many other places I don't even no about. Crossed the Rhine into Germany. He is 84 and now live's in a nursing home after suffering brain damage during open heart surgery last fall. He was splitting his own firewood the day before his 6 bypass's. What an example he has lived befor me. My life has been blessed by this kind gentle man. It makes me sad to see his generation of great heros getting smaller everyday. We all owe them so much.
Thank you Vets,
Paul
PS the small plaque in the photo is honoring the boys in my dads class from the little one room school at Aldrich MO. that gave their all for their nation.

Paul,

I would encourage you to get all the information down that you can on where your father served at during the war if you havent already.

I had heard me father tell his war stories so many times that when he started each time I left rather than hear it again. Luck would have it that I did decide to write it all down before he passed, thankful I did. I can hear him now telling about the invasion of Biak Island, Hollandia, and Port Moresby with the 227th.
