Positive Ground?

You say, "68 year old generator," which leads me to believe you are using the original ignition system.

It is probably positive ground. Originally almost all these tractors were. If you install the battery like you would in your car, with the negative terminal grounded, you just might kill ("let the smoke out of") the generator and/or regulator.

If, however, you have a 12 volt conversion, all bets are off.

It's a positive ground and I installed the battery correctly. I does shows a 10 amp discharge when the lights are on and the engine is off. As I would expect. It started doing this about a day before I replaced the battery.

When I arch the "A" generator pol to the "battery" terminal pole On the Voltage Regulator ... to reset the polarity it sparks... but it doesn't reset the polarity as I would hope.
