Mike, there is an H advertised in the photo adds for 850 that looks pretty good. I will bet you can get that home with some help from others on this board. If not, how about renting a trailer and bringing it home. Wisconson is only half way across the country. Even with help you might not have to go vry far to get it. See what can happen if you have faith.!!!!!

I appreciate the looking out Henry. Nebraska Cowman has made me an excellent offer on an H he owns, and I am still trying to figure out how I could do it. The problem is: The cost in gas at least doubles or more the price of the tractor. So worth vs. cost keeps me from jumping in.

Allan in NE suggested I could get a daisy chain of members to haul it steps of the way. But I have a real problem asking good folks for such a favor when I don't know them.

So, for now, I've just been sitting and trying to be patient, and letting the good Lord show me the way. Honestly, I don't know what that means... one day I'll be driving home and a ray of light will illuminate a perfectly restored '44 H with a For Sale sign on it for $500 two blocks from my house. hehehe

But Cowman's offer was such that I can't help but keep it at the forefront of my mind.

There is never any shame in askin somebody for a favor. Besides I am sure that nearly all of the people on this board would be willing to haul it part of the way for ya.

Personally I would love to haul it to California for ya because I want to go over that way some time anyway. My only problem is I am way up and over here in Minnesota.

Hey Mike, have you looked on Craig's list. Here in Colorado there's usually several old farmalls (and tons of n-series fords) listed. Here's one in Lake County that comes with a sickle bar mower:

Here's another one in Yreka, although if you're in SoCal that's till a pretty good drive (but better than coming to the midwest!)

I'd be interested in this one myself if it wasn't a thousand miles away!

Good luck,

Keith

That "Daisy Chain" idea would get media attention across the country! Maybe we could get the Powerstroke or the DuroMax or the Dodge Cmmins folks to get into the act and get some advertising publicity for themselves. We need some slick-talkin' forum member to contact them. Let's see, The Cowman, Allen or Tom Windsor come to mind....
On second thought, MikeCA, isn't there a Navy base in Chicago to which you could get yourself transferred? mike

Not if I want to stay married. My wife said we could move anywhere in the world, as long as it's on the West Coast of the United States.

Well, I suppose that does complicate matters somewhat. Maybe she'd fall for this old trick: "The earth shifted on it's axis, and as far as I can tell Chicago is on the West Coast now, baby."? mike

Mike, There are always people looking for a back haul. Keep the word out and someone might be delivering something near there and need something to haul back. They have to come back anyway, why not haul something.

Did Allan in NE suggest that also? I peeked at a map and saw the H is very close to an old round barn I photographed about three years ago. Potato country near Stevens Point, Wisc. This sort of venture could generate national media attention! Or another thought, there are illegal (politicians in D.C. don"t understand that term) immigrants in Wisc. maybe part of their punishment would be to drive the H, no padded seat, from Wisc. to CA for ya, then they turn themselves in and get the free ride back across the border where they belong...one more or...or have the politician of our choice from each state traversed, ride the unpadded seat from Wisc. to CA. Problem is narrowing the list from each state to just one person when the field is so great...couldn"t help myself again .
