The old gal is really starting to run better after 10 hours.

latest problem, my PTO shafts spin all the time.

The valve on the pto body just flops up and down like it isn't connected to anything. Changed the hydraulic filter. It looked ok and the rear lift works a lot faster now.

What should I do first? Take that valve out? can the spin a little more forcefully than my hand can stop?

I really appreciate all the help.

First make sure that the valve returns all the way down to the bottom of it travel. If it does and it still keeps turning, try this:

With the engine shut off, put a pipe wrench on the PTO shaft and try to turn it. It shoud take quite a bit of force but you should be able to slip the PTO brake. If it will not turn without turning the engine, the clutch pack has slipped and is fused together. If it turn real easy, the brake pads are worn out.

The valve should move quite freely for a little ways and then you should feel it work against a spring as it lifts up. If it moves freely the whole travel distance there is a little pin in the lower end that is broken. If you can pull the valve assembly out the top, the pin is broken. The valve assembly must be installed from the bottom.

Unless you have a two point hitch rather than a three point, you are going to have to slid the PTO back to get the valve out. The other possible way to remove the valve is to remove the drawbar support. Easier just to run the front end down in a ditch and pull the PTO.

Thanks Owen. I'll try it the next time I get a few hours.

I really appreciate all the help.
