I have a Farmall Cub and Super A I want to paint. International red paint enamel at the local TSC store is $20 a gallon. International red enamel at the local tractor dealer is $35 a gallon. International red acrylic enamel with hardeners at the local auto parts store is $90 a gallon. I can also buy a hardener to add to the regular enamel for $5. Can anyone with painting experience advise me which way would be the best way to go?

I am going to use PPG DelStar acrylic enamel. I planned on using the IH paint but a couple of body men said it would fade pretty bad. I priced the Martin paint at $236 / gallon and the PPG was about the same. It's like everyone says you get what you pay for and red it expensive paint, too.

Im really GREEN when it comes to paint for Farmalls. Would you say this is about the best paint, both in durability and closest to orginal color? I ordered paint today and it is around $35 gallon, not sure of the brand but from the sound of what you Gents are saying, I begining to feel I goofed..

If you want the best, this is what I recommend.
NAPA (Martin-Senour) MSA-5009D Acrylic Enamel, MSA-560 Standard Reducer, NAPA 15115 Acrylic Enamel Hardner. Mix: 1 gal paint, 1/2 gal reducer, 1 pint hardner. This is not cheap, the whole thing will cost you about $100.00, but you will love the results!

I'm sorry to question you but I get the Acrylic Enamel from Napa for 44$ a quart. Thats 176$, pint of Hardener is 15$, Reducer is 14$. Etching Primer is 5$ a can- fiqure on 15 cans 75$, A good sanding ultra fill primer is 5$ a can another 75$, body filler 15$ Total is 270$ and that doesn't include the sand for the blaster, sanding disc's, wire wheels, sandpaper, etc.
Sure would like to now where to get all the stuff for 100$. And yes it does look good. One thing you better not forget to pick up is a can of fisheye killer for another 20 bucks. O you better get a good breathing respirator filter mask while your there, and a couple air line filters too.

The Paint he is talking about is MSA. It is a commercial acrylic enamel that is only available in a limited selection of colors. It is much cheaper than the regular Martin Senour acrylic enamel.

You'll get what you pay for with the acrylic enamel/hardner. The finish will be far more durable and it won't change color on you. Adding a hardner to the IH enamel will help it too. As for the TSC paint, I have heard this same story from several others, but folks that shed their equipment don't seem to have this problem. Must be the UV doing it to the paint. Don't know if a hardner will help this or not.

UV rays are harder on paint than anything else.
Other forms of weather just help speed the process of breaking down the paint. The sun does most of it. Red is the color that has
the worst resistance to UV damage.

Whatever you do, don't use the TSC. I would probably go with the more expensive paint from the IH dealer that you didn't mention, and add hardener. The $35 paint you mention is implement enamel.

I used the TSC BPS paint on a platform carrier a couple of years ago. Now it is marroon not red. It looked good at first but slowly changes. I like the IH better but have never used the other.
