On top of the touch control reservior unit there is a soft plug the size of a half dollar, Whats it there for and how easy is it to get out ? This is a Farmall Super A Model. I think they are sometimes called a freeze plug.

Usually an expansion plug (the proper name for them) are just to plug a hole that had to be there
for the manufacturing process. In other words, they probably had to drill an internal passage in the casting, which left a hole, so they need something to plug the hole.

The purpose of the expansion plug is usually to fill the holes which were necessary to remove the casting sand from the castings when the casting was made. They also sometimes cover a hole where a passage has been drilled as Farmer mentioned. They are not for the purpose of freeze protection although they sometimes do work in this respect but not always.
