Well, I thought that it would be easy. I took out all the bolts I cound find that looked like the hold the transmission cover on. A few bolts had to be beheaded. Anyway, i still can't get the cover off. i put a farm jack under the cover lip in the rear to give a little lift, the cover just comes up a crack and then the whole tractor begins to lift. Is there something i'm missing or it the cover just being stubborn? Thanks!

Also I think there are at least one bolt thru the top of the brake cover on each side that must be removed to get the platform off Good luck

I had a real hard time getting the transmission cover off my Farmall MD. Several bolts twisted off just below the surface of the cover. I tried jacking and prying, but nothing worked. These broken bolts were so rusted in that they wouldn't allow the cover to come up. Finally I drilled out the broken bolts down to about a half inch above the main case just so there was enough bolt to unscrew with a vice-grip after I finally got the cover off. Once I had the bolts drilled out the cover came right off. Roger

BTD, the following is taken from the blue ribbon service manual
1. Remove the clutch shaft
2. Remove two dowel pins and 6 cap screws to remove the belt pulley assembly
3. On an H the steering post and fuel tank support bracket need be unfastened and supported up off of the decking
4. Remove the seat assembly
6. The rear deckcover has 15 cap screws and three dowel pins
7. The brake housings must be removed by undoing 4 3\8" cap screws
8. The rear frame cover may now be removed complete with the gear shifter mechanism That is the info given...hope it helps...good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

Bingo! Thanks Mike! I have not yet removed the clutch shaft or the fuel tank support, everything else is removed. I'll get them tomorrow and start lifting again. BTD

Do you have all the bolts from the belt pulley unit or cover out? Be sure that there are absolutely NO bolts around the perimeter of the cover still in place. There are 4 dowel pins that line things up, they could be rusted or even when they aren't they are tight sometimes. ALSO, you have to lift it fairly straight up or you will break the shifting forks, they don't have much room for mistakes.

Hope this helps.
Steven
