I recently purched a Farmall 706 knowing that the low end of TA is out and possibly the clutch also. I drained an extra 10 gallons of Hydro Tran fluidout of the transmission last night which is not good. I can apply the brakes on the tractor and if everything is working right I should notice the engine lugging or kill the engine. This does not happen the engine stay the same and it fell like the clutch is slipping but, no smell of the clutch. Is it possible that the clutch is oil soaked or the high end of the TA going out also.

First off why was there ten extra gal. of hy/tran in it ? (2) check the pressure on the MCV to make sure that you have the rite purssure on the T/A (it should be 235 to 250 Psi on the T/A clutches, IT is posable that the reason for the extra oil is that there is a bad O/Ring between the speed trans and the range trans and when you change the oil and filter it won't pick up prime , Do you have oil dripping out the bottom of the clutch housing? There is a lot of what ifs on this and real hard to tell over the putter ya darn near have to be there to tell with any certenty.

I do not have oil dripping out of the bottom of the clutch housing. I purchased the tractor less than a month ago with all of the oil in it. I am in the process of working on it and putting a new clutch , pressure plates, throw out bearing kit and waiting for my TA to arrive. Just wanted to know if I should be looking for anything else. Thanks for the advice. Every little bit helps.

If you have never done a Hdy T/A before then you are in for a treet there are a lot of things that you need to know and a lot of things that most people don't know ,it is not just a matter of unbolting and stuffing it in and your done if you want a job that will last.

Sounds like the clutch has oil on it , can bake the oil out , but the right way is to put in a rebuilt clutch !

Will the oil light at the guage cluster come on when key is turned on,(eng stopped) or when clutch pedal is depressed?(eng running) Hopefully the TA you ordered is NOT OEM, also don`t forget to replace steering/TA pump.

TA/steering pumps are not long lived/durable. The oil/lube light is a good indicator of Steer/TA pump condition & circut leakage.

Oil/Lube light should come on when cl pedal is depressed & go out just before tractor begins to move when in low gear & at higher eng RPM. It is adjusted at Dump Valve linkage at MC Valve.(long 1/4" bolt, shorten or lenghten to get proper results) On a 706, the oil light doubles as eng oil\trans lube press warning, & should never come on while eng is running or cl pedal is not depressed.

I already have purched a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing kit, and waiting for my TA to arrive before I dig into it. Just wanted to know if I should be looking for anything else.
