A neighbor of mine is haveing an auction this spring, and he has a really nice 186 Hydro that has only 2000 hours, but it broke my heart when i heard he put Hy-Tran in the engine one time. This is only a rumor, but would this really hurt the engine, cause if it does im not even gonna think about buying it, cause all i need is another problem. If i got it i was gonna use it in a hay baler.

I wouldnt think it was a problem, Hytran is a premium oil, (assuming he used CNH HYTRAN), its base is 10w with additives mainly antifoam for hydraulics, as I have stated from my education in the real world of a dealership from 1960 till now I have said that lack of lubricant is far more of problem than type.

Bill, if it were going to hurt an engine as the other fellow said i'm sure it would have shown up by now. When I worked for a dealer for over thirty years I cannot remember the times I replaced seals on 300's, 350's, 400's, 450's and any number of other live hydraulic equipped tractors that were above and beyond the full mark with HY-TRAN. It is actually one of the best grades of oil you can possibly imagine. If you don't believe it look up the specs on it. I certainly wouldn't let that part bother me. Just make sure and check it over otherwise as to oil pressure, if it stays up, and no strange noises. If it were some time ago and he has been using it regular, can't see what problems you may run into. Good luck.

hydraulic fluid is a thinner oil, 5W to 20W , i have always been told.i'm sure it has special additives. I would be concernd about the engine knocking or squalling after operating temp has been reached .will be interested to read what othershave to say. jeff
