Ok RED guys--I thought some of you might be interested in seeing some hillside farming pictures from my area. I know the color isn't right for this site so if that may offend you DON'T look! I've worked on this farm for twenty summers and have loved it every year. It's a good break from teaching and offers some excitement working in the hills. The operation consists mainly of Kentucky bluegrass for seed, wheat and lastly dry peas which go for Campbells, etc. for soups/human consumption. About the only red equipment is a blower used to load grass trailers, the CIH baler and 25'disc. I'm hoping
my H will find it's way out there when it's finished and maybe some red paint will rub off! Enjoy.

Nice shots of the Palouse. Used to live in Spokane and traveled the area extensively. Steep stuff south of Spokane. I was there when Mt St. Helens blew. Remarkable place.

Every once in a while the plow comes out and you can still see it roll up. A lot of it washed down into the draws and is becoming "soil".

Great Pics. Exactly where were you working. I'm just accross the state line not too far from Tekoa. (St. Maries, Plummer area)

Dav--It's 6 miles west of Rockford. Cornwall's--you probably heard the name on the dealership in Fairfield before it was sold some years ago. Small world isn't it?

The 1470 hillside made up for all the off color machines, BR. Thanks for posting them, they are incredible photos in spite of the non red machines.

Thanks JD. I had to dig to find one to make it qualify. I guess when you're in Rome you do as the Romans do. That baler really works slick. Last year they put a 5 bale accumulator on it and the stacking goes a lot faster. Six years ago the burning of grass fields was banned by Wa. State Ecology. Up until then everything was burned off in the fall, which eliminated the duff and shocked the plants into high seed production the next year. Now all that's left to do legally is to rake, bale and re-cut. Yields went way down since then and a lot of farmers quit growing. Production has shifted to irrigated parts of the Columbia Basin & elsewhere thus price has gone the way of everything else for a while.

Considering I live in Spokane County, This looks quite familiar. Nothing Like a Hot August Night seeing the silouette of a Combine at Sunset. I would consider Harvest quite a break from teaching.

Bleedinred, those are some great pictures. It looks like harvest is pretty dirty work out there. It has to be tough on combines.I would think as steep as it is unloading on the go into trucks would be tough.Be sure and show these pictures on Red Power as there is a 1470 IH pictured.

I've unloaded in spots where I wish I hadn't! A lot of years ago I was combining down at Sprague, Wa. (N. of Ritzville) on some extreme hills. The guy on the bottom was unloading into the truck which was on the lean, the guy up next was unloading into combine #1's bulk tank. I tried to get into # 2's but it was really steep and I decided I didn't want to slide someone else's combine into another one! The soil has the consistency of baby powder after something has run over it once and creates quit a cloud of dust on the haulroads. Glad you enjoyed!
