Tried my hand at saving a Farmall H from the scrap yard this past winter. It is not nearly as good a job as some here turn out, but I am very pleased with it just the same.

I could not have made it through some things without the advice of so many of you GREAT people.

Thanks to All of You VERY MUCH.

B. Quinn

Does it say "Capt Earl" on the side of the grill? My eyes aren't good enough to pick out those letters. Sure goes to show that "rattle-can" paint cans aren't all that bad. I use rattle-cans all the time and for the price, they do a nice job.

Yes it does say "Capt. Earl" on both sides of the grill. I named it in honer of the man that owned it: "Capt. Earl Stubbs". He bought the tractor new, and used it daily until his death about 5 years ago. It and a sister H (a 1949) sit out back of his place rusting away. I bought both of them from his daughter. The 49 was beyond saving, so I am using it for some parts.

Thanks John, Thats not the seat that you sold me.
The seat that I bought from from you is going on the 41H, when I can get around to it.

Now working on a 46-A and a 45-BN.

The A is in decent shape, but the BN needs some tender loving care. I wish to have both of them ready for the local steam & gas show, and the 4h fair as well later this year. Want to visit Maryland ?, sure could use the help (and Mrs. Reds Credit card).

NICE JOB! Those Big tires make that H look as big as a M! There's few things as se*y as a tractor with 100% rubber!

Thank You

The rears are 14.9 X 38's, writing on them reads: "SAFEMARK Multi-Angle" 6 ply nylon.
I found them in the loft of a barn where I picked up another tractor (a 41 H). They still had the stickers on them, and had not seen daylight for about 10 years I was told. I don't know if they are still being made or not.

The fronts are 6:00 X 16's "Super Hi Rib" bought from the Family Farm Center Store.

Great looking tractor! I'd like to know what paint you used and what painting process. Hopefully mine will look as good as yours! Mike

Thank You, For the paint I choose what we use at work on various equipment. It was painted with a total of 20, 15oz spray cans of: RUST-OLEUM "Professional" High Performance Enamel "Safety Red #7564". I cleaned it real good with spray cans of oven cleaner, and a high pressure washer. Then wire brushed, and sanded all metal work.Filled any remaining pitts with auto body glazing putty, resanded and primed all with Rust-Oleum red primer. Tried to take my time with the spray cans (used a can holder, it made a difference too). Gave it 2 coats of primer, then 3 finishing coats of red, lightly sanding with wet paper between each coat. Used Rust-Oleum also on the rims. Would have liked to have used a air sprayer rig, but did not have one available. It cost somewhere around $185.00 for all painting suppiles totaled.

I wouldn't be making any apologies for that job if I were you. It looks great! Ride it with pride. Scotty
