In the process of restoring an F30, I drained the transmission grease and was surprised to see that there was only about 1/2 teacup of water in it after sitting for so many years! The grease that was in it is heavy stuff, but looks OK. My question is, can this be reused, or should I flush the tranny with kerosene and refill with 85W-140W? Also, should I change the grease in the large gears that are driven by the rear axle?? They are both full to the proper level with no sign of water. Any reponses will be appreciated.

Contrary to popular belief, oil in gearboxes can go bad over time even without the presence of water. It can oxidize, or become acidic. It is always a good idea to change it annually. I don't do it, but that is what should be done in a perfect world. I would recommend you drain it, and pour in about five gallons of diesel and spin things around for a few minutes, then flush and refill with a good quality multi-vis gear oil.
