Hey Bob, I copied one of your posts for wiring a 6v Super H . I also copied the trouble shooter post also. I went down thru the list and found that when I used a jumper wire from the Gen. to a ground it started charging. This means that theres a break in the wire, trouble is the wires are new. Also the wires are hook ed up correctly except theres a jumper between the fuse and amp guage on the neg. side, and when disconnected it shuts the tractor down. THis jumper wire is not on the diagram. Any Ideas whats ailin it? Thanks in advance. Andy

Andy, a few years ago, I replaced a regulator on a mid 40's H and I remember the instructions said to remove this jumper wire (2-3") long and I think move another wire. That's all I remember but it still works fine.

Hi Andy - If I understand right you correctly, it charges you have a jumper between the generator "F" terminal and ground? If so either there's a break in the wire connecting the generator and regulator "F" terminals, OR you have a defective regulator.

Not certain what the deal is with the jumper around the fuse in the ammeter box. Have you tried replacing the fuse to see what happens??

Post back what you find or email me off board...

Bob thanks for the quick response. Im pretty sure the wire is good from the gen. to F" terminal., so it must be the regulator. In the box the fuse has a "block" that the wires come into 1 to the ign. switch and one to the lights, from that same post a wire to the fuse and a wire to theneg. side of the ammeter. Also I dont think the guage is working either, it doesnt move at all even when I switch the wires. I took the fuse out of another tractor so that shouldnt be a problem. One more thing, the tractor will run for a few seconds while revved up when I disconnect the jumper wire I mentioned earlier. Sorry for the long post, hope this helps. Andy

Andy - Can you sketch and post the wiring you describe inside the box? Could be the ammeter is wired up wrong, but I can't tell for sure from your description. With a sketch hopefully I (or someone else here....) can figure it out.

Note: A quick way to test if the ammeter needle is stuck: Take a small magnet (like a magnetic pick up tool, or even a refrigerator magnet) and move it around close to the ammeter with everything turned off. If you see some meter deflection with the magnet in certain positions, you know the meter needle is not stuck.

Bob, sorry it took so long to post. Im not set up to post photos so bear with me. according to your wiring diagram everything is wired correctly except that wire from the fuse to theneg. side of the ammeter, which when disconnected kills the tractor. Could the ammeter be bad? I tried the magnet and the needle moved but only to the left, and still no movement when charging. Anew reg. is forthcoming so Ill let you know what happens. Thanks again. Andy
