I posted this question before and got one response, for which I am gratefull, but I would like some difinitive info if possible. I found a 1256 and a 660 for sale both as wheatland models.
Can a three point hitch be put on either of these tractors and would it be cost prohibitive? Thanks in advance.

The 660 can have a 3 point added, I do not think the 1256 can. Noone makes one that size or at least they did not when I was looking to put one on a JD4020 wheatland.

As for the 660, how would you get on the tractor if there was a 3 point back there?? The rear is where you get on wheatland tractors. The 1256 depends if it has rear steps or side steps, I'm not sure which way those came.

Wheatlands are the same as row crops in 660 and 1256, they just are minus three point rock shaft and adjustable front axles. You mount them both the same, 660 from the back or side, 1256 from the side.

See photos of IH 660. There are no side steps and it appears difficult to mount a 3 point.

Roger that, with fenders on the 660, you are right. My 560 has no fenders because it ran a cotton stripper for years and years and years and years, I mount it from the side on steps I built. I was not questioning your knowledge, just trying to kick in some of my .02. I have a 3point on my 560 and I can still mount on back or side. I stick with the 1256 being side mount. See pics of the 806 wheatland.

Agreed, without the fenders you could do it, but I think the tractor would look kinda ugly without them. I agree 1256 is side mount too, went and looked at one today to be sure. :o)

If they have a hydraulic system a 3 point can be mounted on. It will cost less than a Grand and more than $10.
