On a '51 cub, is it necessary to completely remove the hydraulic cylinder block from the tractor to replace an O-ring on the control valve shaft? From the service manual it appears it can be done without removal of the cylinder block. Also can it be done without removing the cylinder head? I have O-ring but do not have new head gasket or block base gasket. As usual I will defer to the advice of the experts. Want to do it tomorrow. Thanks.

Not sure if it can be done without removing the block. I had mine rebuilt by the IH dealer and took the box off and carried it in. But the box is easy to remove and I would think it would easier to work on with it on the bench than on the tractor.
