I'm headed out tommorow with my son to look at a couple of Farmalls for possible purchase. We have been looking for an H or M for a working tractor on his little hobby farm. The 340 is offered for sale with an M for a similar reasonable price. I'm a bit sceptical of the 340 , I've seen them for twice the money locally. I will give each a very thorough inspection, kind of expecting the steering and ta to be shot for this price ( it has no 3 pt either). If indeed it checks out mechanically would I be wise to steer clear because of cost and availibility of parts. Of course the owner says it's in great shape. I guess I just feel the M is eaisier to restore and keep going, plus the fact that I like the looks better. I'd appreciate anyone's opinion as well. Thanks

The 340 is somewhat more manuverable than the M and probably has power steering along with a TA. If the 340 and the M were in equal mechanical condition, the 340 would be worth about $1500 to 2000 more than the M. But for $600 for a good three point hitch,$300 to 400 for Charlynn power steering and a $300 live hydraulic pump and $100 for a priority valve, the refurbished M will be an extremely functional tractor which will run for many years. Parts are easier to find for the M.

If you go with the M, parts will be no problem to find.
