Well rested A

Howdy all.

I have a A that has been sitting in a garage for about 10 years. It's been kept dry and just sat.

Anyway... I'm getting ready to start her up. I pulled off the valve cover to make sure all the valves were free, only one was sticky. I sprayed some anti seize on it and gave it a little tappy poo until she started to move up and down. Unfortuneately I can't use the hand crank to turn the motor over, but I figured I would crank the engine with the ignition off to circulate the oil before trying to start.

Anyway... my point here ...
I plan on replacing the oil/filter... but is there anything else I should do as well ?

Thanks,

Brian: I would pull those sparkplugs out and spray some kind lube\anti rust stuff into those VERY VERY DRY piston & rings. Maybe several squirts of thin oil too. Those DRY pistons and maybe rusty rings getting moved without any lube may do more damage than you think. Taking plugs out anyway? Spray the insides of the cylinders. The other note had good stuff to do also. R.

I'd recommend changing oil along with the filter and drain the gas tank and carb completely. Fresh gas, charged battery, new oil, and some luck are usually a good combination. If it's been sitting that long you may have some water in the tranny and the final drives. If the weather is below freezing (0 C)I wouldn't drive it until it warms up. Condensation will sink to the lowest point and freeze leaving the lube sitting on top. Gears can freeze into the water pretty solid. Good luck with it!//FB

I'd change the oil twice, once before I try to start the tracor and again after I let it run for a few minutes so as to get rid of rust particles that may have formed on the cylinder walls after sitting that long. I'd also take out the plugs and put some kind of lube down each plug hole, either clean or replace the spark plugs, totally drain the fuel syestem and, take apart and clean the carb, replace old fuel line and filter. after that she should take right off if no ignition problems exist.
goood luck!, Jonathan
