I have a Super A which I haven't totally broke down yet. When tearing down, I noticed I was able to move the crank up and down (front and rear bearings still unlosened, middle bearing off). The pistons, rings, bearing on the wrist pins are terribly worn out ( I mean terrible !!!). Anyway, I haven't been able to get a mic on the crank yet to see how much they've been ground ( I assume it has at least 1 time ), but I'm worried that it may be way under since I was able to move it ( again with the bearings still on ! ) about .010" to .020" up and down (very lose). I have a opportunity to get a cheap crank .003" under/over whatever really cheap (100.00). I'm not sure if I should buy it or not. If I don't, and my crank is way undersized what can I do ? One friend of mine suggested I could get it plated. Does this make sense ? has anyone done this ?

Any Help much appreciated.

I don't know too much about the prices for crankshafts (I'm hoping mine is okay) but if it is cheap then why don't you buy it. If you need it you can put it in and if you don't you can sell it on for the same or a profit. Either way you don't lose. Good luck. SAm in NS

Brian: You wrote that you had the middle bearing OFF.. well, just look at the insert backside. They'er stamped std, or 10, 20, 30 thousands under. Then you can estimate what you have.. If you have a .030 all ready and it's loose as a goose, buy the good crank. If you have standard, you may be OK. Inspect yours first. It'll anly take minutes to get an estimation. R.

I would suggest that you first get what you have inspected.. The C113/123 Crank is a cheap one to have reground, and if you can go any undersize to 0.030 you will be money ahead.. One thing to look out for is a cracked crank. I personally have not seen one in a C113/123, but I know my regrinder has a pile of them (along with the cub cranks)
