I tried to use the new forum, get registered, etc., but I got all screwed up and couldn't figure out what to do. My daughter who is very informed on computer procedures couldn't figure it out either, so--it's not for me. I like this forum's style and composition just fine.

Dukester, did you check your browser settings to see if it is set to accept "cookies"? If it isn't, you'll never be able to log in; You will type in your user name and the password which they send you by e-mail at the time you register, but when you go to log in, using those two tools, you will get an error message that says "password incorrect" unless your browser is set to accept "cookies". That is my main objection to the new "and improved" site. I don't want to allow cookies (whether temporary or permanent) to be placed by anyone in my computer. I would have no trouble negotiating the site if I could only get in!!!

WEK,

I am also one that finds it an intrusion on y privacy for someone to place "cookies" on my computer. It also aggravates me as a paid subscriber to RPM to have to submit to this to access thier web side when I have already paid for the magazine subscription. To me a "cookie" placed on my computer is no more than a "bug" placed on my phone or somewhere in my house. What I do on my computer is my business and mine alone as long as I'm not using it to committ a criminal avtivity.

I don't know how many realise that "cookies" can contain spyware.I recently installed a spycatcher program on my computer and was surprised to find several "cookies" with spyware, plus a few temporay internet files. I'm not saying RPM would stoop to this , but what about the popup adds that everybody dislikes? It is "cookies" from these that I usually I have discovered the spyware.

Now I keep my browser set to block all "cookies". People should try setting their browser that way and then visit some of their favorite sites and see for themselves. Towards the bottom right hand corner of your window a small red circle will appear when a "cookie" is blocked. Double click on it for a privacy report , click on the blocked cookie and then click on summary. Read the report.

Yes, I know that I can set my browser to accept or block "cookies" from individual sights and I have considered this option. Due to the above mentioned popupads, for the time being this is not an alternative. I really enjoy RPM and all the great people who I have met on there, and hopefully will continue to chat with them. Its better than sitting down and watching TV and a lot more educating. Hopefully Rick will get this all worked out and will continue with the old site with some modifications.

As for the spammers and flamers. IGNORE THEM!! By answering their posts everybody is feeding into their hands. Silence is very lonely. How many of you have had your spouse give you the silent treatment? From experience, I can attest it is no fun. And before everybody jumps on me for that remark, yes, I usually deserve it. She's a great lady and I wouldn't want another. Putting up with me for over 30 years says something about her.

My $.02 plus some,
boog

Nothing that I could see ever said anything about having to set your browser for cookies. I tried to get in but after 2 and a half hours I gave up. I guess I will just spend all of my time here and hope all the other people who are fed up will bring there IH discussion here as well. This a great site and not only that, we can also check out the other fine brands of tractors too.

I have seen but not posted Red Power's new set up. But I still like the YTmag set up better. I find it easier to navigate thru. But I enjoy the posting I read on both sites and are glad for the info I find in them.

Thanks Alot Everybody

I believe if Rick had come with a bit of advance warning and a few advance directions the whole forum would have been a lot more compatable. He should remember he is not for the most part dealing with a bunch of computer wizz kids, but rather a lot of old farmers who's approach is, if all else fails consult the manual. I see what he is trying to achive and believe that is a good thing. I believe it was Glenn said it would weed out the objectionable posts.

I sure agree with you that they may have messed it up. I do understand why Rick has done it, but I don't like it as well and think it will sure cut down on things. This is the same as Steel wheel Ranch and I didn't like it either
I have registered, and yes it was tooooo much trouble as far as I am concerned HD

Guys, I think that one reason Rick set it up the way he did was to control the spammers and garbage posts we've been seeing lately. Most spammers won't post if they have to register. The forum at ihcubcadet.com now requires people to register prior to posting, and it has weeded out all of the troublemakers. It'll take some getting used to, but I think it will be for the best in the long run.

They did ruin a good thing and I think that it could be changed back if enough people respond to this. It was so simple and unified before but now we have catagories.

You have to register(click 'Register' at the top). Once you've registered, you'll receive an e-mail message with a password. You can then log in and post away.

You can "then log in and post" providing you are willing to accept "cookies" on your hard disc, which I am not; and if, like me, you are unwilling to accept cookies, they can send you all the e-mails with a password until Hades freezes over, but when you go to log in and type in your password that was given to you, you'll always get the message "Incorrect Password" I don't like the new forum at all; it takes all the intimacy out of the postings and, as to the spammers and flamers, etc, as ole Harry Truman was wont to say "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"

I registered, got My password and was posting messages in just a couple minutes... 3 to 5 maybe... It's actually a very "User Friendly style of site" Most every other Forum I frequent uses the same format anymore. The old RPM format was so slow! We'll probably be able to post pictures & all kinds of neat stuff. It also allows You to do search functions so You can find old posts with part numbers & phone numbers etc. easily. Give it a chance.... As Martha Stewart says... "Its a GOOD THING"...

Denny: I will agree, what Rick is trying to achive is a good thing. I believe he is over complicating it though. I would have expected, an anouncement in print magazine on such a move. I firmly believe the criteria for using forum should be a subscription to print version. In other words everyone should put their money where their mouth is. I am a recent newcomer to forum, indeed in beginning I only viewed proceedings. It wasn't until I paid my subscription that I felt comfortable having anything to say. Same with YT, I believe Kim should have a paid subscription. Above all keep it simple. You are afterall dealing with a bunch of guys with more expertise on tractors than these computer wizz guys have on their computers. An online magazine will not work without participation. Hugh

Hugh, then you can imagine my fury at having been a subscriber to Red Power magazine for the last 8 years and now I cannot even gain access to their $%# forum unless I let them into my computer!!! Needless to say, I strongly doubt that I will be renewing my subscription when it expires in September. The only way would be if they remove that "cookie" requirement from the new site. Red Power magazine needs me a lot more than I need it!
