Just received a copy of the literature for the new turbocharger with dry-type air cleaner. The following is what it says. When properly installed, this turbocharger can provide your 560 diesel tractor with improved fuel economy and full rated horsepower at higher altitudes. all necessary installation parts-plus a new 176 cfm capacity dry type air cleaner are included. The part number should be 407 055R91 for $462.00. I think this is from a 1967 parts & accessory booklet.. Any one ever seen one. BZ

I have always believed that IH offered the turbo kit for the 560. I know the kit WAS NOT made just to be operated at higher altitudes, instead just to help give the engine a lil power boost. I'm not aware of this turbo kit being offered by IH when the 560's were in production. It was offered after the 1206 was announced, as IH was still "playing" with turbocharger technology back then. When the 1206's were being developed, the "weak link" on the tractor was the rear tires. The side walls would buckle and the tire would spin off the rim. Another case of too much IH power!!!!!

OK, I believe you. However the literature says it was for high altitude which I suspected and mentioned previously and we were definitely not in a high altitude area in the Mississippi Delta. I guess that is why we never saw or sold one. Also by the date it was offered 560's were no longer a current tractor or considered a high horsepower tractor in our area.

I KNOW IH made these turbo kits as we had a 560 and had one installed in the '60's. It made for a very nice pulling horse-the only drawback was it seemed to break head bolts and blow head gaskets often. Lots of power though. A neighbor of mine is still running his 560 turbo. He had his installed around the same time.

There was a lot of this done around here in the early 60's. The neighbor had one and said it would put out 92 hp. I haven't seen one for 20 years. He pulled a 5 bottom steerable plow with drag in 2nd gear.
