What's your favorite or most effective cleaner to use on your tractor just prior to painting? On my cub, the only thing necessary for repainting seems to be a good sanding and cleaning of exisiting paint. In tight places where sanding is not possible, I would like to clean grease film so that new coat of paint will adhere well. What should I use to clean tight corners with? thanks.

Automotive repair shops use a dewaxer degreaser which either is or was called Prep-Sol. NAPA dealer would be able to get you some or its current equivalent. I use steel wool wrapped around wooden Q-tips(or small dowels) to get into crevices and etc to degrease and prep.

I use the PPG brand wax and grease remover. I don't remember what it costs, but I always buy the gallon jug because it works great for removing bugs and tar from vehicles too! All I have to do is sand and wash with water, then wipe down with the wax and grease remover, spray the epoxy primer, wipe down again and paint. So far so good, some work 7 years old and looking great!

I always have had good luck using regular acetone just prior to painting and a lint free rag. It has a quick evap time, leaves no residue and primer/paint sticks good. Be careful with it as it is highly flamable.

Pretty much any thinner is good, I guess you would have to watch it with acetone since it will cut almost anything, I would just get some Parks thinner in the white plastic jug with a blue label, it is under $2 a gallon and works fine, its also good for cleaning your gun, but I don't reccomend you painting with it.

We use "Westleys" White wall cleaner, Spray good with spray bottle and presure wash and let dry . Cheap and very efective. Just test it on a little piece if you like.
