I have a 1942 farmall h and the engine has a definite miss to it. I think it is only running on three cylinders. The magneto has new points, condensor, new cap and rotor, new plug wires, new plugs. I timed the mag. according to the book, and still wasn't running right so while it was running i loosened the bolts and tried turning the mag. back and forth but it didn't seem to do much. I set the valves at 0.015 cold but I'm thinking of adjusting them to 0.020. I was also thinking maybe it could be a carb. adjustment or governor adjustment but I'm not sure. I hope you guys have some ideas. Thanks!!!

Make, make sure the wire are in the correct order. I went through everything and discovered I had two wires switched. Only my two cents.

Take a look at your intake manifold - could have a leak in it. Does your tractor sound any better if you pull the choke out part way. My H and M both were missing unless the choke was out part way and on both tractors the manifold was loose on one side.

It could be one of the plugs is not firing or a bad one. Pull plugs and see if one is fouled if not try running a compresion check. You might have a burnt valve.

I am going thru the same thing with a miss in the H engine. I have set the valves, checked the compression, changed the mag, changed the gov., plugs points condensor cap wires are new, checked timing and checked the manifold for leaks. The engine misses at all rpms unless it under a load then it runs fine. I am to the point now that I and some of my mechanic friends think the manifold has an internal crack allowing the exhaust and intake gases to fight with each other.

I don't know what type of plugs you use but had our Super M running like that and took out Champion plugs and put in Autolite 386 and purrs like a kitten.
