Today, I found somthing I havent seen before, and somthing that yall dont talk about much. I found a 1944 M, that runs off propane. Its all there, and the motor isint stuck. It was suposed to run, but after the owner died in 72, it hasant been moved. The thing that really got me, was the fact that it had a small fuel tank on the right side of the tractor like a distilate tractor would, and the back of the hood was cut like the propane system was aftermarket. Did they put those on aftermarket, or was that a factory option, and is the tractor worth messing with. I think I could pick it up fairily cheap. Thanks for your help.

If it's a 44, it was aftermarket. Still pretty cool.

I saw Guy's comments and just have to ask. I have an M my dad bought new 50 years ago this year and it is propane. It has been propane all my life but it looks converted. Were there any M's that were factory propane? I thought they started that with Supers. By the way, read three of your books, Data Book IH, Letter Series, Ex & Prototype. They are SUPER!! Scott AR

Just the Supers were done from IH. Apparently there were some aftermarket companies that may have purchased Ms direct from IH and installed the LPG. IH even had some appear in their tents in state fairs in LPG areas.
