Dad has a 1206 with a thump in the bottom of the block. He also has a retired 815 diesel (combine) with a bad valve. My idea for a low cost repower is to put short block from combine into the 1206. Will the head & cam from the 361 fit the 407?
Thanks,
Brian

Pistons are different between a turbo or non turbo, also oil jets in block, head gaskets are not the same for 361 as a 407.

The combine's D407 will fit into your 1206. The only difference between a late D361 and a late D407 is the block and the crankshaft. The difference between a late D361 and a D407 and a DT361 and a DT407 is the oil cooler is bigger and the DT361 and the late DT407's have bigger wrist pins, also the DT's have 2 oil sprays per cylinders and the D's have only one
