Won't be to much longer and I will be ready to remount the rear wheels on my project "C". One day I think I will mount them with the weights on the inside and the next day I decide to put them on the outside. I have even though about taking them off all together. After this much work I want her to look her best. What are your thoughts????? ????? ???

BIG JOHN: Since aesthetics are more important than physics -- most of all you want it to look good for all the work you've done! -- then be sure and think about the way the wheels "dish" in or out. I tried mine both ways and, personally, I decided the tractor looked best with the wheels dished in. Matter of taste, I guess. RedTed/MO.

I've seen them both ways. Some big tractors will have them both inside and outside when they are set up for heavy pulling.
I think the biggest advantage to mounting them inside the wheel is that you can put more weight on the tractor without having the weight stack stick out so far.
If you are only putting one or two sets on, it's probably a lot easier to mount them on the outside and it will still look good.

Weights are usually mounted on the outside. Much easier to do unless you have split weights. If regular one piece weights, you have to mount the weights on the hub before you put it on the axle, making that a much heavier assembly and much harder to handle. If you put the weight on the outside, you can mount it after you have the hub on the axle. I don't think the position of the weight inside or outside will have any affect on the bearings. The bearings carry the tractor chassis. The wheels and weights are supported by the ground.

I have put considerable thought into this. A couple of things to think about: When your wheels are dished out it puts more thrust on the axle bearings because the tire is out farther from the bearings - the wheel is pushing up on the outer bearing and down on the inner bearing.

When the wheel is dished in, the wheel is closer to being centered over the bearings - meaning there is less down force on the inner bearing - less twisting really.

I'm thinking about having the wheels on my H dished out with a couple weights on the inside to even things out a bit.

I'm sure someone with a better physics background could explain it in more detail.

Farmers picked based on the use of the tractor. Dish in for a width available in a dish out configuration places the clamping mechanism farther out on the axle shaft(bar type axle). On flange type axles width has almost total control on the orientation of the disk portion of the wheel.

It's really the distance from the center of the tractor to the middle of the tire. Tractor is pushing down at the center of gravity and tire is pushing up at the center (of lift?). The torque (which is the force you are worrying about) depends on the weight times the distance; it doesn't matter if the distance is axle plus or minus wheel dish, distance is distance.

Anyway, set the tires at the width you want; too narrow and you risk tipping it over.
