I just saw a picture of a farmall bn and was wondering what is the difference between a regular b and a bn.

This is off the subject, im helping my friend's dad's buddy. Im the only one with internet access. The man has asked me to find out where he can get an Owners Manual for a McCormic Farm All M-H 1941, if anyone has any helpful information or a deal it is much appreciated. My email is hoosier@netmds.com.

The N is for Narrow. Each axle, left and right, is four inches shorter than on the B. Essentially the same tractor, with a few different parts (seat platform, steering wheel bracket, pedal guard, etc.) related to it being narrower. Maybe somebody can jump in here and set me straight, but from the parts books, it looks to me as if the dimensions and parts on the right side of the BN are the same as on the A. Does that sound right?

yes the dimensions are the same the cast axle housings are different as the one for the BN has tow boss for rear tooling and the A has groves on the top but the dinensions are the same also the axle shafts are identical the two assys can be interghanged for replacements unless the tractor has to be original say a B that someone had used an A for the left side then shortened the drawbar dont know what that was for looked wierd had a for sale sighn on it

You are right, Scotty, The dimensions are the same, but the differential shaft housing casting is a little different on the BN to accommodate cultivator attachment points.

Well, I'm in awe. That's a great catch. As much time as I've spent prowling around the parts book planning and laying out the work I'll need to do on my BN, I'd never have caught that. Thanks! Scotty

I have to admit that I learned that from gene b. He pointed it out once on here and last year at a show, there was an A, B & BN sitting side by side so out of curiosity I looked those castings over real good, comparing them to each other, and He was right.
So thanks, gene b.
