Walked into NAPA today and ask for a Starter Drive for a Delco 6 volt starter on a 1953 SH Farmall.

They checked several catalogs and made 3 LD calls to the warehouse. Found out there were 6 of them in KC, Would have it yet this afternoon and it would be $69.70.

After I picked myself up off of the floor, I double checked to make sure we were talking about the starter drive that I had ask for and not some electronic gizmo. Yep that was starter drive and it really was $69.70. Thanked them for there time and left talking to myself. Decided I should be talking to you guys.

Can anyone give me a better source (cheaper)for a starter drive????? ?????

Times have changed & so have prices, this starter drive fits a lot of tractors, many of them a lots bigger than a H, it would probably be wise to price around, but dont put a cheap one on a M/SM/400.

John, I got one from Pat Rusten at Rusten Rebuilders at 217 589 4045/4687. It was 43.37 BUT it was a ratchet type that fixed a problem I had breaking the spring/ring type of drive. Pat is a good guy and business man.

Big John, know your feelings exactly. Same thing happened to me a year ago. Looking for a drive for my van starter. This all happened at Farm and Fleet. The drive alone would be over $40.00. Upon looking at the repair kits, lo and behold the kit which included brushes, springs, shims, washers and the drive was $15.00 plus tax. You figure. Good luck.

You might be able to buy a complete starter for not much more than the drive alone.
