The lower bolster on the tricycle front end has an angle that is reversable. All of my dimensional drawings show that angle to the rear of the tractor. In reality several of the tractors that I have purchased over the years have had the angle forward instead of to the rear.

I would like to hear the PRO'S and CON'S and opinions of everyone about this.

Thanks guys. I always though that the angle to the rear was the right way but I guess I never noticed the difference in steering. I always opt for WFE because I just don't like NFE. Thanks again

I hate to be the contrarian here, but the bolster on my B was angled forward when I bought it, and sp when I had it apart I looked around at other tractors to see if that was right and saw them both ways so I did an experiment. I tried it forward, then took it off and tried it backward. I didn't notice any appreciable difference in the steering. Of course, my steering U-joint is shot, so I have a lot of free play, so that didn't help my experiment much. I left it angled back, for the reasons the others have outlined, but in my case it didn't seem to matter.

The lower bolster should angle toward the rear. HOWEVER..... ..IHC made a wedge-shaped shim that when installed between the pivot shaft and lower bolser flanges, brings the lower bolster closer to vertical. Correctly installed the wedge reduces steering effort, especially at low speed or with a heavily weighted front end (like with a loader). The downside is it greatly reduces the "self-centering" effect of the steering. And if the steering gear is worn or has bad bearings, it makes the front end much more prone to shimmy.

Punch below for a photo of the wedge that was installed on my Super H when I acquired it. You can clearly see one side marked "front" and that it is thicker at the rear than at the front.

Definitely needs to be installed so there is a tilt toward the rear. Then it's like a caster and will steer straight much better and will be self centering.

Towards the rear. Steers easier.
