I am 64 years old and I am wrestling a weighted rear wheel onto the axle and boy oh boy am I having a hard time of it. Just what is the secret to lifting the rear of the A without tipping it over, then aligning the bolts to thread into the axle!? and sliding the wheel inplace aligning those bolts?

Should I take off the wheel weight, and install that alone, then install the rim? oh brother, doing this alone is one tough bean and no one's around to help since the boys moved away and the wife is out of town.

Where do I place the jack to lift it without tipping it? on the left rear axle? oh brother.

I like the creeper idea, I'll have to try it. I have made a heavy duty creeper for things like this, out of a small chunk of 3/4 inch plywood and four heavy duty casters, the whole thing costed under $20. Boy does it come in handy for putting on the corn picker subframe! But if you had a creeper like this, and used a jack to get the axle just the right hieght, then it should be able to slide right together.

Why don't you try to reinvent the troublesome wheel? You stand to make a fortune as well as save yourself all the trouble.

I have had to put on and remove my wheel about 4 times this spring and will have to take them off and back on 1 more time yet.. I use my creeper to hold the tire and then just push in in to the axle stub sideways. I do have to adjust the height but I do that with rolling car Jack, & then turn it so the handle is facing the wheel I am replacing. Takes about 5 minutes to take a wheel off or replace. Good luck Keith

Best place to jack an A or Super A rear wheel left or right is under final drive, more precicely under drawbar mounting bracket. These off set tractors are more stable than they look. On some mechanical functions I place wooden wedges I have made between front axel and bolster.

It is usually easier to leave the wheel disc in place and remove the rim. Less weight. alignment much easier.

The easiest way is to have the tractor the correct height so you can roll the wheel into place and put the bolts in. You have been told that already. If it is too risky changing the height of the tractor can you roll the wheel up on some board or boards . I keep some beveled wood shingles around for deals such as this.
At 64 yrs. working smarter is better than harder.

Buy a $200-$300+ engine hoist. I'm the same age as you are and not nearly as strong as I was when I was, say 20. So far I have more than paid for it in savings on hospital/funeral expenses. Still have to be careful. I tipped mine over moving a tire off of my C. Luckily I was on the opposite side!

I am a firm believer in manure loaders. If you have access to one, you should use it to pick the back end up of the tractor up high enough, and then block it. Then attach a chain to the wheel around the rim and lift it up in the air w/ the loader, and position it (by moving the tractor w/ loader on it) next to the axle of the A. Then you should be able to manipulate it onto the axle, as it will be fairly easy to move around when it is hanging. But otherwise, I just use a hydraulic jack under the same axle you are working on, and use it to position the axle at exactly the right hieght, and then roll the wheel up next to it and put it on.
Best of luck!

Billie!

Careful there. My grandson was helping remove the weights from off mine, when he dropped his side the thing fell over striking me on the shin. Like you say....OH! OH! After that I got it hit in same spot from a baseball another grandson threw and later again with a rear wheel off one of their automobiles. Being about fifteen years older than you it took a long time to heal up. You should seen a old man cry whopper tears....
