I just rebuilt my farmall h and was reading in the owners manual that a new tractor should run one pint motor oil mixed into every five gallons of gasoline for the first 100 hours of operation, should I do this with my rebuilt motor? I was just planning on using a lead substitute. thanks!

My highschool FFA chapter bought a 51 M to restore, but was also donated a 50 H. It was just lokced up. after beating out pistons and installing new rings and putting the pistons back in, we just ran it with normal gas, no oil added. our "brains" of the operation said not to run it 5th gear wide open for the first take though, let it get broke in.

My Grandfather was an IHC dealer years ago....We traded equipment every 2 years.....I remember that every time we got a new tractor they put oil in the first tank of gas and we didn't pull the tractor hard ,on that tank of gas ..... It must be so...

If you feel you need to run something in the gas, use Marvel Mystery Oil, and mix it in according to the directions on the can. It lubricates the valves and gives the exhaust a distinctive odor. ;-)

No need for lead substitute. That is a scam to take your money. I have run my F12, F14, A, SMTA, old cars, old trucks, etc. with unleaded fuel for years and had no problems.

If you would like to you could add some 2-cycle oil to your gas for the first tankful or so. I didn't on my rebuilt H.

Does your head have hard valve seats?

If you don't know, ask whoever rebuilt it for you. With stellite seats there is no reason to use lead substitute. IH put hard seats in for use with tractor fuel (distillate) which was unleaded.

As a matter of course I don't use lead substitute in any of my Farmalls and don't think I've experienced any problems. I have run M's, H's, and an A and a C for over 20 years on unleaded fuel. We work three M's and a C hard every summer.

Have never run oil in gas but it can't hurt.

It couldn't hurt, and might help. You might want to check the plugs along and along to see that they're still clean.
