Anyone out there know a source for the small cap that goes on the small starting gas tank on a distillate H. Is this a salvage yard only item or is it available anywhere new?

I have a use for the second (starting) tank on my H. I use it as a reserve tank. By use of a tee valve I hook it into the main fuel line. That way if I am mowing and run out of gas in the main tank I can switch over to the small tank and get back to the barn and the gas cans to refuel. It never fails that you run out of gas when furtherest from the barn or gas supply! Dont let the gas in the small tank go stale, use it up on occasion and replace with fresh gas.

Good IH dealers still have them availible as new parts yet. They are #40756D, about $ 15.50. We stock them at C&G.

Yep I got mine from Ken. I guess it would be cheapest just to do away withe the small tank all together since it will never be used (atleast not on my machine) But I wanted to keep it mostly original. Besides there is a whole in the hood. might as well have a shiny new cap sticking out of it..

Ken:

Now that you've affirmed availability of the caps, how about the tanks themselves?

Thanks for the replys. I'm headed to our local IH dealer tomorrow for some other parts so I'll check on the cap. Thanks again--boondock
