I know that I can ask the guys at the paint store but I would rather hear from the guys that really do this type of work.

I've never used hardener before.

I understand that if you add hardener that you have to use all of the paint within a few hours. Is this true or falacy????? ?

Was thinking about giving the old Farmall one coat of just regular paint and then in about a day or so giving it another coat but this time adding hardner. Is this a good or bad idea????? Was hopeing to get the bright shine of a hardener and improve on the chipping problem of a hardener.

I have to paint outside so don't have the best of conditions. Usually paint early in the day if there is no dew or late in the day after the wind dies down.

Any HELP will really be appreciated.

Just finished paintint my Super A. First one I ever painted. You can see it in the "Tractor Photos" section. I used hardner and only put one coat on. Painted outside but under a shed. I mixed 1/2 gallon and painted the parts(fenders -hood-etc.) and then mixed the other half gallon and painted the body. Only used about half of that and the rest is still usable, after four days.My advised would be to use a HPLV system, they save paint and are very easy to use. Good luck

I have been painting cars for several years now. Just getting into restoring tractors.

Putting hardener in the paint will cause the paint to harden in a sealed can. Mix it as you need it when you need it.

DO NOT put soft paint under hard paint! Your cracking and chipping problem will only worsen. It will be like walking on thin ice and having it crack behind you. Thin coats are best. All you need to do is color the tractor. Not give it a heavy, almost ready to run off on the floor coat.

Painting outside is not a problem with proper conditions. No wind, damp ground, and no bugs. I have seen expensive show cars that were painted outside in a gravel driveway that look better than many new cars on a dealer lot.

Give it a try. There is nothing better than saying you did it and not someone else had to do it for you.

Good luck.
