I had read in the manual that the non diesel models(mine is gasoline) did not come with Water Temp guage as standard equipment. Does this mean that they also did not have thermostats? The reason I am asking is that I would like to install a water temp guage but need to know if I should get a thermostat also.

You obviously didn't have a manual for a Super A as there would be no mention of diesel. They did not make such a beast.

Hugh: Thanks for correcting me. I said diesel but meant kerosene. I really do not know the difference between them.

BRAD,when you fill your radiater with fluid,
DONT fill with pure antifreeze or she will run way TOO hot
the reason is of the thermocycle it has to BOIL for this to work right
50/50 mix i think dont hold me to this its been awhile someone on the board should correct me
have a nice day billybob

Thanks. I will mix water with antiFreeze and use the float guage (balls that float) to get the right proportions. I would still like to be able to monitor temperature though. Any ideas?

You need to premix your antifreeze solution for best results. However, the mixture does not have to boil for the thermosyphon system to work. If it did, your cooling system would be empty at the end of a hard days work.

Thanks for the tip. I will use a float guage to get the right number of "balls" to float in the solution. But I still would like to have a guage to measure temp. if possible.

The Super A's were never offered in diesel, but they were offered in kerosene/distillate that did have temp. gauges. The cooling system is a thermosyphon which doesn't use a water pump so no thermostat is required. The factory water gauges were mounted in the lower rad. connection so by the time they started showing much heat you were in real trouble. Good luck. SAm in NS

I see. Could I put a thermostat in the superA anyway and then put a universal water temp guage?
