Hydraulic Valve/Pump Rebuilders???

My 1955 IH 300 Utility hydraulic system needs some help. The triple Hydra-Touch valves leak and the hydraulic pump seems to have given up (3-point still moves & PS still works, but not the loader).

Has anyone had good experience having their hydraulic valves or pump rebuilt? I'm in the mountains of West Virginia with no rebuilder in my area. But I can UPS these items anywhere if I can identify an honest, capable rebuilder somewhere.

Thanks very much.

Bob

Where are the valves leaking from? If they're leaking from in between each other, you just need to replace the 19 or so o-rings. If they leak from the ends, just replace the o-rings under the covers. This system is not hard to work on at all. Your local Case-IH dealership can get you all the parts you need.

It appears that they are leaking from around the shafts that the handles control. Is that a leak that can be controlled by "O"-rings too?

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

Yep, according to my Farmall 240 parts book (the 240 has the same Hydra-Touch as you've got), there are o-rings on those shafts. It looks like you may be able to replace them without taking too much apart, go through the cover on that end of the valves, try not to go through the other end, as to avoid removing the garter springs, like jmyt_47 said, you need a special tool to replace the garter springs. I really can't give you too many tips for working on those control valves, as I rebuilt everything BUT the control valves on my 240's Hydra-Touch. You can order manuals for your tractor online at www.batescorp.com They have about any manual you could ever want, but the parts manual shows exploded views of everything, so it might help more than a service manual. You can also get the books from your Case-IH dealership.

Thanks for opening my eyes on this. I do have a parts book for the 300U, and now see the "O" rings on the explodes picture of the control valve. Looks doable. I wonder if Case/IH sells a rebuild "kit" for the valve -- to save hunting down all the individual part numbers. I'll call tomorrow to find out.

Thanks again for your comments.

Ditto.

I have a 300 also. You can get all the parts from the dealer for your valves. You can also get the shaft seals for your pump. You'll need a special tool to install the garter spring if you totally disassemble your valves and rebuild them. If the pump is in need of a total rebuild, your dealer could get you a new replacement. Or you could try a national hydraulic repair shop like Force America. They have locations all over the U.S.

Thanks very much for these ideas. I'll call that number to see if they are anywhere near me.
