Hay BigM, why not go ahead and pull the pan. That way you can fix it better, JB weld or braze weld and you get to clean the goo out of the pan and check the oil pump pickup for cloggs.

I will not guarentee this, but I couldn't find any better item one day around my shop. This was a 6.2 Chevy diesel, hair line crack in oil pan. I cleaned it with oil in pan. Had a paper towel in one hand and a bit of gasket black on finger. I wiped the weaping oil away and pushed gasket black into crack. I coated it with two or more layers. Five years and 100,000 miles later its still there and pan has never leaked since. I thought at time it would stop the mess until I had a chance to remove pan, and repair properly.

Thats sounds like it worked well. I was thinking a dab of JB Weld pushing into the hole.

Sounds like a good idea to me. On what I said about 6.2 diesel, it was Sat. pm and was greasing truck. I knew there was an oil mess on bottom of pan, just figured it was a main bearing seal leak. When greasing I noticed it was only on bottom of pan and not running down. Knew it was no use Sat pm to go shopping, next best thing see what is on hand in shop. Of several materials gasket black seemed best bet. It worked. JB WELD sounds good and if it works great, if not it is not a big loss on time or money.
