Having more spark plugs laying around then I have GB on my hard drive (37.5), the Champion D15Y are usually too cold and don't fire worth a darn after a short period of time. In Champion use D21Y. I now use AC with no problems. AC C86 is the successor to the AC C83.

RED,I use D-21 in H & 350. Have had the same set of D-15Y in SMTA for 5 years now, this is a working tractor, worked about a 120 acres with it last year. When the other tractors wont start, we can always depend on those D-15Y's to fire up without a problem. I think the lower power tractors, like your H's, need a hotter plug.

Lyle that could be the reason I reckon. All of ones I have messed with are 6 to 1 compression or around 100psi. Anyway at least I finally found a winning combination. They cost the same in Indy no matter which brand you buy.

Manual from 1946 H that I used, says 15-A for Champion, or AC-87. I know that a lot of guys use D-21 because of the unleaded gas issue. I still use D15-Y in my SMTA'S have had no problems.

D15Y was the old number , think new number is 515. I prefer AC plugs, C83,.. or a autolite plug. Got away from Champion, they never last

Amen on that. I was a diehard Champion fan but have jumped the fence. I know from 10 seasons of experience the ACs are a far better plug. They get the Red seal of approval. :)

I'll agree that Champion plugs are garbage. I've got a dozens of times when they failed - just stopped working (dead cly), middle blew right out, fouled up when and AC would not (The Autoparts store told me they were the same heat range).

For kicks what's AC stand for ?????
