Farmall h carb rebuils questions?!!

The needles on my farmall h carb were unresponsive, so I took it apart to rebuild. I split the carb to see if the main needle was seating. It looked like it was. So I dumped so gas in the half and gas still seeps through the seat. I tried the new needle and the old needle and they both leak. Am I correct that when the needle is seated no gas should seep through? Do I need a new seat? Are the seats replacable? How do they come out? I don't see a screw head on it. Where are the seats available and how much do they cost? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

A "packing nut" is very important. This is a soft (lead?) bushing that the needle sits in. It is included in most rebuild kits. I have "been there, done that", and the leak stopped when I figured out what that 1/2 inch lead barrel was for. Good luck.

yes, the seat will come out. there shuld be a spot on it to get a small end wrench on it to turn it out. there pretty cheap, and if you cant get it out take it to your local dealer and they will most likely remove and reinstall new seat for free. derek

According to the parts book, they should come out. I've got a junked H carb body at home. I will attempt to take it out this week. I don't recall ever having one out.
