I've scarfed a belt pulley housing off of my parts H to be installed on my restoration project. From what I can tell, it engages okay but I wont know for sure until I get some power to it. Would there be any reason to flush the old gear oil out with diesel and refill with fresh gear oil? Red, got the water pump assembly apart, and ordered all new packing, bearings, and seals. The impeller shaft is a little worn in places..any big deal?

Bill since you don't have to rebuild water pumps but about every 25 years, I would get that impellar shaft replaced if they are available from your IH dealer or IH Ken Updike. Ask him about the brass bushing also. Mine were not really worn at all so I have not had to address that problem.

Do flush the old crud out and just add like a half quart of 90W in the pulley housing intake hole after you have remounted it. You will see it there on top.

Yep, forgot about that brass bushing, almost washer like. Mine looks to be completely scored where the impeller fits against the pump body. It's down to a tiny thickness. Ken has only seen my $ to your $$$$$ spent so far, and no governor spring bruhaha! ha

Bill the governor spring was one of the cheapest fixes on that durn, er Corey's H. The governor thruster sleeve and bearing, made of gold, were the CHA-CHING $65 item.

Better keep yer fingers crossed. My B project started out to be "just replace this 5 dollar governor spring"... Fortunately I'm too dang cheap to replace any part that isn't "serviceable". I'm only into it about $300 so far, though I've put in many, many hours of cleaning.
