Just came in from attending an estate sale for a second cousin. He had a International 340 NF that was partially disassembled. Looked like he had started to replace the water pump (it was missing)however the carb and the manifold were both off also, of course the grill, raditor, hood, etc were off also. It had been in the barn like that for about 4 years.

Couldn't just let it go the the scrapers for parts. Brought it home with me. Good tin, good tires, bad paint, ugly 12v conversion.

This is a model that I have no experience with what so ever. Please give me all the pointers that you can about what to expect. It looks to me like a vastly improved "C". Live power, remote hydraulics, TA, 2/3 point hitch, what else????

Like I said please give me all the advise you can.

THANKS

Hey Big John, if you need a water pump, search the photo classifieds for "IH". Someone's selling a NOS water pump for $50! They say it's for a 240, 330, or 346, I think by 346 they must mean 340.

Good for you JOHN. There's something about keeping these old red tractors in the family. I have a 340 Farmall I use for about everything on the home place. It pulls 2/14 Little Genius no prolem, the 10ft disc will make her snort but she's up to it. I can tell you this tractor is pretty rare, mine's the only one I've ever seen. They are prone to have steering problems, must be a weak link. Tin parts must be hard to find according to archive research I have done. Keep us posted on this project and if there is any thing specific I can help with please feel free to ask. PUTTER

Sounds like a good project. I can give you the basic info- it was built 1958-1962, in Farmall and Utility versions. It has a C-135 gas engine, about 35 horsepower, optional D-166 diesel, and has a 5-speed and TA. Guess the best way to describe it is the front half of a 240 bolted to the rear half of a 460. I've got a 240 I've been working on, parts avalibility isn't the best, but I've found everything I need to have a good working tractor. If you are missing any sheet metal parts, it will be a struggle to find them.

Hope this helps!

I found a 340 row crop NF and am in the SLOW process of fixing it up- parts and info are hard to come by- I wish you luck, feel free to e-mail if you need help- I probably need all the help I can get. Thankfully mine still runs pretty good.
