I read yours along with others about my hard starting F12. It has a newly rebuilt mag, new plugs, etc. I think it's more of a fuel problem more than anything. I have a problem with vapor lock when it's hot out and I pull my disk. I just wonder if I'm sucking air between the carb and manifold, or carb is too hot....I'm at a loss. really sucks to be at a show and have a hard time re starting....in front of a crowd no less!!

What MikeH and the other fellers said about fuel. Wouldn't hurt to doublecheck the mag timing as well.

i know how you feel. my little 12 is really shy also. just some thoughts. rebuild the carb, rebuild the fuel pump. check for rust or something in the lines. all are cheap to do. is the tee at the top of your gas tank clean ?is the carb tight to the manifold? need a new gasket or two? try that, like the other guys said rice has all those parts. hope that helps. pg

Hello Brian,
Could it be that you're running on petrol and the heat setting is set to cold running vapourising the fuel too readily? I have had this problem with some of my F.....ns. They often peter out easily on petrol and won't restart on petrol but will restart on a kero mix when hot. Sometimes the heat control is so rusted that you would do more harm than good trying to alter it!

Anyway my thoughts

Regards

Andrew

I really don't understand why you have a problem with people helping people. F14 is a resource on this board that is greatly appreciated. Strange that you would think it worth your time to poke fun at that.

Brian, a couple other things to think about. The fuel pump on these machines is marginal. If you don't have a small hole in the gas cap, it will pull a vacuum and stop the tractor. Unscrew it when you see a problem and check to see if you hear a vacuum releasing. You might also have a fuel pump problem. Check by draining the carb and see if there is gas in it. If so, gas is not the problem (duh). From my experience, you probably have a gas delivery problem of some kind.

And yes, Rice has most of the parts to fix this series.

Ok thanks for all the relpies.....All new fuel lines, small inline filter just in case. Fuel pump has been rebuilt, Vent in top of hood is clear, gas cap also drilled and usually left a little loose to help prevent vacuum in the tank. messed with mag timing more than I care to admit to!! Gonna think about sending carb in and exchange it for a completely rebuilt one...

Also thanks to all that answer, I have given some advise to others on this board before but by far have asked more questions and truly appreciate those that answer. Also love Rice Equip. they have quite a few of my dollars (or as my wife says her money!!HAHA)
