Due to the wear parts getting more difficult to find by the day for the old little genius style plows, has anyone ever thought about trying the newer style moldboards, shares and shins that are available at TSC and other farm stores??

I thought of this the other day and wondered if this might solve a ton of problems and be a much more cost effective solution to expensive custom made parts. I know the purists will holler, but the field guys might benefit. I am sure I am not the first to think of this.

Farmers are some of the world’s best engineers. They just don't always have the best tools or time to get the job done cleanly. That’s why they made number 9 wire right???

You would have to change the frogs that your point, shin and moalboard bolt onto. I am not sure new frogs would bolt up to your beams. The other problem is most of the old plows were 12" and 14" bottoms, lot of 16" out there today. My guess is it would be a whole lot cheaper to buy a plow. If you have a genius keep it for an antique, don't plow with it.

I have four and love to plow with all of them. I mainly just plow at plowing bees and farm shows. I only occasionally plow at home (10 acre patch).

Just thinking out loud here.
